Power Games vs. Authentic Strength

Level: intermediateModel #46
Description

We play power games to be right, which leads to suffering. Don't defend some fake identity—be conscious and lose this identity that creates power games. Power over others is weakness disguised as strength. True power is within and always available. The need to feel right for self-preservation leads to suffering, so lose that need.

Applications
Recognize when engaged in ego-driven power games rather than productive disagreement. Ask: "Am I trying to be right or trying to reach truth? Am I defending my identity or defending an idea?" If the former, you're in power game territory.
Develop authentic inner power rather than power over others. Build competence, integrity, and self-awareness. These create influence without requiring dominance. People follow authentic strength voluntarily; they resist coerced compliance.
Avoid the need to be right at all costs. Being wrong and updating creates growth. Being right but closed to new information creates stagnation. The need for certainty signals weakness, not strength. Comfort with uncertainty signals confidence.
Build influence through competence and character rather than domination. Do excellent work, help others succeed, keep your word, admit mistakes. This compounds into legitimate authority that others grant you rather than power you extract from them.
